Hidden Histories

Free

Suitable for all ages

Over the past year, Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums (TWAM), Groundwork, South Tyneside Council’s Cultural Development service and The Word have been exploring the hidden treasure and histories that can be found in South Tyneside’s Roman and Anglo-Saxon heritage and in the fantastic museum collections at Jarrow Hall and Arbeia, South Shields Roman Fort.

Local artists Alizon Bennet and Rachel Eleanor Brook have been working with community groups to inspire creativity, curiosity and enquiry, exploring stories and ideas as part of our heritage.

The exhibition captures the project and features a film created by Wycombe 89 Media. It encourages you to ask questions, find out more and visit the sites with wonder and imagination.

Think about what objects are most precious to you? What objects would you use to tell us something about yourself and why?

ABOUT OUR EXHIBITION PROGRAMME

Our new exhibition programme celebrates the stories that make our area unique. Hidden Histories invites you to explore objects that capture stories that may have been hidden over time, while Soundpit allows you to create new stories using your imagination and creativity through playing with sand.
